mutt mime type problem with microsoft exchange

Microsoft Exchange has been lying people that it supports 8bit mime.  You have to disable 8bit mime in mutt or else you will not be able to forward/reply some emails (with mime) to any of the emails that are on the exchange server. The error message will be sent in an email.

To disable this, you have to set:

set allow_8bit=no

in your .muttrc file. You will find that variable in .muttrc with a default value already. I had to do this setting when I used alpine too.

Good luck.

This condition is very unpleasant, I had similar problem and luckily for me quickly worked out it with the aid of one program. I was privileged to find out it at one soft forum. It showed many good facilties and I proved its ability to work with most every kind of problem - the connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable saving new contact.
